Folklore
The folklore dance group of Serbian Community Centre for Western Australia was formed in 1997, immediately after the completion of work on the centre. The founders of the centre, mainly Serbian migrants from all areas of former Yugoslavia, intended to form a dance body that would allow preservation of national Serbian dances and culture. The emphasis was on the younger generation since they were the ones that would carry on with the tradition. The goal of the centre’s folklore dance group has not changed since.

The dance group provided excellent opportunity for friendships, team work and trust between the performers. During the past ten years of the centre’s existence the dance group has presented over 8 choreographies showcasing various dances representing Serbian culture. Each performance has been applauded by the audience. Dances performed by all the age groups include: dances from Sumadia, Nisava, Vojvodina, Vlaske, Studenica, dances from Nis, Petrovdanske Lile, dances from Serbia.

It is important to note that Serbian Community dance group is comprised of two sub groups. There are five to twelve and twelve to eighteen age groups. An extra group occasionally gets formed from time to time from people who don't regularly attend or people not in these age groups.

Rehearsals for all members are held on Fridays from 8:00pm to 10:00pm at Serbian Community Centre.
