karageorge soccer cup 2008
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Karageorge Cup and Perth has got the honour to play host
to 14 semi-pro football teams including three from Western Australia. These clubs have their roots in the
Serbian community, however the players are representative of the multicultural Australian society. These
players are known for their passion and have sometimes been described as the ‘bad boys’ of Australian
football, but the Cup will see them on their best behaviour.
With a growing Serbian Community now numbering 12,000 in Western Australia, the expectations that this years Tournament
will surpass all others to date. This year will see many firsts for the Karageorge Cup, which boasts a proud history of Sportsmanship,
Community Interaction, Sports and Cultural exchange between our States and an opportunity for many young soccer players to travel
interstate and participate in a 3 day tournament that always results in great memories and many new friendships for our youth.
Our expectations are that we will have between 10,000 and 12,000 visitors during the 2 ½ day Tournament.
We are also expecting 2,000 to 3,000 visitors from interstate. This will be a great opportunity for the Serbian Community to contribute by
presenting to our guests the best of WA, our hospitality, our friendship and our great city.
Thousands of visitors from all over Australia have already confrmed their attendance at this important event.
