day 3 wrap up

After two days of competition it came down to four teams. The match for the third place was contested by the two local teams with proven pedigree, Dianella White Eagles and Dianella Ravna Gora. In the end Ravna Gora team celebrated with 3 goals to 1.

The final was played between Springvale White Eagles from Melbourne and Woodville Beograd from Adelaide. Both teams started on even terms and the scores were tied at 1:1 for some time before the Springvale White Eagles took lead and then confirmed their championship aspirations once more before the end, with final score 3:1 against Woodville Beograd.

We also have two videos. The first video shows the two finalists just before the game started as well as one of the goals by Springvale from a free kick in the second half.

We would also like to congratulate all the participants on fair play and good behaviour but especially Springvale White Eagles on their superb performance. For the complete listing of results and individual awards please visit the results page.

the cup has started, day 1 impressions

Friday 3/10 was the first day of Karageorge Soccer Cup. Guests and dignitaries started arriving early in anticipation of the tournament draw and announcement of next and following years' hosts.

By the time HRH Princess Elizabeth Karageorgevic, His Grace Bishop Irinej and Mr Ljubo Protic arrived most of the people were already happily conversing with local and visiting teams and their supporters. Many great rivalries exist between these teams from their local leagues and previous cups and it was a great pleasure watching them reflect on past cups and glories. Arrival of VIP guests was followed with great interests as this was their first visit to our small community centre. During the competition draw the guests were entertained by various performers from local community.

Below you can see some photos from the evening. They show Mr Ljubo Protic delivering message from Football Association of Serbia and their intent to extend ties with local soccer clubs. The video shows HRH Princess Elizabeth and His Grace Bishop Irinej arriving at the community centre.

After about an hour, the groups were finalised and next years's hosts chosen. It is with great pleasure to announce that the 2009 Karageorge Soccer Cup will be organised by the Krajina FC from Melbourne and one in 2010 by Springvale White Eagles FC also from Melbourne. For complete groups listing and full competition schedule please visit the results page.

fc slavija impresses in exhibition matches

FC SlavijaWithout doubt, FC Slavija from Sarajevo is the favourite to win this year's Karageorge Cup. The football club was founded in 1908 and has been competing in the top leagues of then Yugoslavia and now Republic of Srpska / Bosnia all these years. Currently FC Slavija is 2nd on the ladder in their national competition.

Since their arrival in Perth, FC Slavija has played 2 exhibition matches. One against the players of Serbian origin that compete in top state league, which FC Slavija won 2 - 1 thanks to 2 strikes from Stankovic. The second match was played against FC Perth Italy, who play in the top state league. FC Slavija won this match as well 3 - 1, with 2 more goals from Stankovic.

With these impressive performances, FC Slavija is sending a clear message. They are here to win the tournament and with only 3 more days until we get to see the team in action this cup is promising to be an excellent display of soccer skills.

For more information on FC slavija please visit their wiki page or their home page (Serbian only).
